I did manage to get my 1st grade Common Core "Pet Shop Math Fluency" pack completed though. It is very similar to the 2nd grade pack, except aligned to the 1st grade CCSS.

I was out of school today for a scheduled absence... I'm looking forward to heading back in tomorrow. My class starts their NWEA (MAP) testing tomorrow... for the first time. Ever. Yikes!
I had a serious case of The Mondays. I think I slept so soundly that I still felt half asleep while I was driving to work. It was a scary drive!

We did NWEA at my old school. Just tell the kids that there are some questions for higher grades. Some of mine were terrified if they felt they couldn't do every question, so once I told them that getting "a third grade question" meant they must be doing REALLY well, they were a lot calmer and did fine!

We do the NWEA too, but we call it MAPS (measuring academic progress in Sturgis) Maybe you can come up with something like mapwp . . ha!
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting test. We always get to watch our kids while they take it. An EA watches half our kids in the classroom, while I'm in the library proctoring the kids. It's fun to see how they answer questiong. Tell them to read everything through, before they click on the answer. We write down the time it takes them to take the test, then when they take it the next time, we try to get them to take a little longer. Most kids need 40 minutes or more to complete it with care. But many can be done in 15 minutes and get a poor score. We've been doing it for about 8 years. You'll learn lots about your students from this.
