Ask and Answer Questions! {Resources and a Freebie Rewind!}

Well, this week started with the 15th day of school and we're finally trained enough on Daily Five for me to meet with groups!  YAY!

I love Daily Five.  LOVE.  I've been teaching with this system for 9 years and fall more in love every year!

This is what we're doing this week...

We're working on learning how to ask and answer questions.

We used this FREEBIE {rewind!} from my TpT store...

In small groups, we used leveled passages.  We read them and then students randomly drew a question word card.  They had to write a question about the passage using their question word.

Anytime we write on our green circles they are so excited!  They loved this activity!

We added the pages for asking and answering questions to our Reading Response Journals...

And then... for homework this week, students are completing a reading response task {IN THE SAME NOTEBOOK that we put the Interactive Reading Ask and Answer questions in} some ask and answer question practice!  Since we put the response task in the same notebook, they have a resource to refer to at home if needed!  I can't WAIT to grade these tomorrow and see how they did.  The rubric at the bottom will make grading a cinch!  You can check them out for grades 2, 3, 4, AND 5 in my shop!

For independent practice, students worked on answering questions from my newest pack!

Check it out here for RL and RI standards!

Next week, we're going to continue asking and answering questions... but we're going to work on making inferences so we can ask inferential questions!  We'll be completing the inference pages of the Interactive Reading Notebook too!

I'm so glad we're in the swing of things!  Hope ya'll are off to a good start too!

Have You Seen My Door?

This year my brilliant colleague decorated her door.  Why have I never thought of this?!

So, I decorated mine too and I LOVE how it turned out!

I made the "Welcome" bunting by printing one of my themed bunting banners 2 to a page so they'd be smaller and just happened to find the cloud paper hiding in my closet!

I'm thinking I may do this seasonally or monthly.  I think the kiddos will love coming in to see something new on the door!

Writing Center Updated Pics {With a FREEBIE!}

It's my first day of school!  I can't wait to get in and meet my new little people!

I wanted to post updated pics of my writing center.  I can't WAIT to introduce this to my kiddos next week!

This table used to house our student computers but we got Chrome Books this year and I'm so happy to be able to use this table as my writing center!

Products I'm using at my writing center...

Seasonal writing task cards are hanging on the pegs.

The binders on the bookshelf hold this center... A to Z writing tasks!  There are over 300 individual tasks, each connected with one letter of the alphabet including writing a list, a letter, a story, and drawing/describing.  I know my kiddos will LOVE this!

There is also our class Never Ending Story.

Students take turns adding a page to a story until the story is complete!  This makes for really interesting stories!  Click the pic below to get this for FREE!

Quick, Easy Idea for Open House Night!

T'was the night before Open House when all through the school...

Tomorrow is our Open House!  I was lucky enough to teach a bunch of my incoming kiddos during summer school, so I already know them, but I can't WAIT to meet the rest of them and see my old kiddos who always come back to visit!

This is one of my favorite things to do at Open House.  It's QUICK and EASY and LOW PREP for me!  It gives parents something fun to do too and gives us something extra to do on the first day of school.  Because I am sure you're always looking to fill time on that totally non-crazy day!  Haha!

Anyway... here it is!

Easel's up, markers are out, and we'll read this together on the first day of school!
