Using Flippy Books in Interactive Notebooks

I'm linking this post up with 4MulaFun to share how you can use flippy books in interactive notebooks by making a few snips!  Ignore this top stuff if you want... and skip down to flippy goodness below!

Happy Wednesday!

Hubs and I went to see "Billy Elliot" last night and it was amazing!  The little boy who played Billy was ridiculously talented... if you've seen it, can we gush together for a moment about the scene right before the intermission when Billy was dancing infront of the picket line?  OMG.  That was in-freaking-credible!  We also ate dinner at a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.  Aside from the bill, it was an incredibly amazing meal... yum!!!!!!!

That's the end of our musicals until the fall... boo!  Today is our 9 year anniversary.  I woke up to these on the counter:

And, yesterday, he surprised me with this:
Let's hear it for the BLING!  Woot woot!

Anyway... while we were out celebrating, I got a question from a user on TpT.  Am I the only one who panics every time I see one of these come through?  I'm always worried it's an error or someone who's mad at me!

But it was a user asking me if flippy books could be used in interactive notebooks.

My first response was no.  Because of how they are folded, gluing them in a notebook would cover up some of the information.

But the more that I thought about it, I realized that they could!

You have to make 1 cut, but then it will work!

So, I'm going to quickly show you how to do it incase you are a flippy fan and want to use them in a science, social studies, math, or reading notebook in class!

First... fold your flippy according to directions- once hotdog and then once hamburger...

Then unfold it and cut the horizontal part between pages 3 and 4- only cut until you reach the middle vertical fold!

Then fold it closed the right way and pull page four out so it's right next to page one... it sounds complicated to explain it, but if you actually do it, I don't think it's hard!

Flip it over and put glue on the back of pages 3 and 4...

Then, when you flip it back over, you can glue those two pages down.  Page 1 turns to reveal pages 2 and 3 and pages 1 and 4 are displayed out front.

Now that I've realized this, I'm going to have my students glue their different reading strategy flippy books into their RRJs (Reading Response Journals) next year!

If you want to grab some flippys, they're available for many topics at TpT and TN.

More Files Updated!

Tis the season for making things look better in my TpT store!

I just updated all of my holiday flippy books, so if you've ever bought one, please re-download!  (Actually, MLKJ and Earth Day didn't change- but everything else did!)

I also put all 13 of them into a bundle pack for $8 which is $5 less than buying them separately!  Click the pic to check it out or download the preview!

I'm going to give away this bundle pack to someone too!  Please leave a comment to let me know any holidays I forgot that you'd like to see a flippy for.  I have one planned for President's Day (done and added already!) as well as the end of the year... but I'm open to other suggestions!

Here's what I have made so far:

My Little Critter pack got a MASSIVE update too.  I'm really digging the "somebody wanted but so" summary cards and connections cards that are in this pack!  So, that's another one to re-download if you've ever purchased it!  Again... click the link!

And last... you are invited to my mega blog-a-versary giveaway that begins tomorrow!  Please come back and see me... it's a biggie!  Here's your official invitation!

See you back here tomorrow and, if you'd like to try to win my flippy holiday bundle, drop me a line and let me know what's missing from that pack!

New Flippy Books, a Leap Day Freebie, and a Seuss-minder

I'm realizing that we Seuss enthusiasts can add "Seuss" in any word to change it and make it Seussy!  So, this is your "Seuss-minder" to check out yesterday's blog post to enter to win the giveaway that I am doing with Ms. Fiorini and to link up for Seuss freebies and items for sale!  You can enter the giveaway on both of our blogs to double your chances!

Second, I've added two new flippy books at my Teacher's Notebook shop!  I made a Seuss flippy that is in the party day pack... but I also added just the flippy on its own.  And I have just added a Leap Day flippy that you can get for free at my shop!  Just click the link above or the picture below!

I'd love to hear what you think if you download it!

I just put up a Leap Day Mini-pack too if you're looking for something fun to do on February 29th!  :)

Jen has won the whole set of flippy books and Kelly get to pick 10! You can check out all of the flippies here, so you can figure out which 10 you'd like!

Thanks so much to everyone for their suggestions for new flippies, sharing my giveaway, and liking my FB and Teacher's Notebook shop! It was a bit of a demanding giveaway, so thanks for participating!

Currently, everything in my Teacher's Notebook shop is 20% off until tomorrow night... so the flippies are less than $1.00!
Have a great weekend everyone. I did go get my hair re-highlighted yesterday and it turned out INCREDIBLY blonde, so I'm freaking out a little. Today I'm going to enjoy my last Saturday before heading back on Monday and tomorrow I'll be working on school stuff all day. To everyone going back on Monday (and everyone who already went back), enjoy the weekend! :)

Giveaway Time!

I'm doing a little impromptu giveaway because... well, just because!

I have a few bloggy things to celebrate... first, I haven't had a giveaway to celebrate new followers in a while, my blog Facebook just hit 731 followers (thanks to that "and 1"!), and the "flippy book" thing has exploded and I want to share them with you if you haven't seen them yet!

This giveaway doesn't have a definite "end" time (am I breaking a giveaway taboo? I don't know!)... I'm just going to see what the response is, but it will definitely be before the end of the weekend. And you can enter as much (or as little!) as you like... it will require you to leave lots of comments, but if you want to, go right ahead! Each comment is one entry.

To enter:
1.) Leave a comment giving an idea for a new flippy book... something that wouldn't be too crazy to put on a single page.
2.) Leave a comment saying you "like" my Teacher's Notebook Store as one of your favorites.
3.) Leave a comment saying you "like" my Facebook page.
4.) If you share about this giveaway on your blog, you can leave TWO comments. Feel free to grab the image at the top too, if you want!

So, that's five chances to enter!

You will win a copy of every one of the flippy books I have made up to this point. They are appropriate for 1st and 2nd grade, but some of them could probably work in 3rd too. One winner will get all 26 and a second person will get to pick 10 of them!

New Freebie... Time Flippy Book!

I had no idea ya'll liked the flippy books so much! I just figured out how to look at the downloads on Teacher's Notebook and those are, by far, the most popular things I have in my shop right now!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support of the new shop (which just got a facelift thanks to the fabulous Alicia at Dreamlike Magic Designs!), the blog these past 6 months, the Facebook page, and the Teaching Oasis so I added a time flippy for FREE! Any other "flippy requests"? I'm off of school until the 9th, so I'd love to hear what else you'd be interested in.  The time flippy is no longer free... but it's still only $1!  :)

And, last night I finished the most fabulous book- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Now I'm a lover of teen fiction (ie. City of... series by Cassandra Clare, Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz) and this was similar, but more adulty. I LOVED IT. READ IT! Please! And if you have read it, let me know because I want to talk about it... I'm the first one of my reader friends to get it, so it's my duty to lend it so no one I know has read it yet! Anyway, after I read it, my brain was buzzing with the ending of the book and just a desire to actually GO to The Night Circus. Why does it have to be fake?! I love to read, but usually about mid-way through the year, the pile of books on my nightstand exponentially grows, and never gets any smaller. This year, I resolve to read more! So, this book was finished on January 2! I started Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close last night and am about halfway though... it is also excellent.

Anyway, I couldn't sleep because I was too excited about the book. So, I also added a flippy on coins. You can view that here if you'd like!

Have a happy Tuesday! I'm off to school today. I'm going to copy and laminate and re-organize the cupboards that were emptied to fix the leak last week. I *might* re-arrange some furniture too... if I do, I'll take some pics and share what I accomplished! Tomorrow I'm off for a day of scrapbooking with my group, the SWANS (scrapbooking women at new stores) tomorrow, so I'll be organizing my bag when I get back from school this afternoon!

Back in action... giveaway time!

Hi friends! I am so happy to report that, after a day full of delays (one that involved us sitting on the runway in the +100 degree New York heat for more than 30 minutes in an airplane that they knew they weren't going to fly us on because a computer was down and then they made us get off and go wait in the terminal for a different plane, which did nothing good for someone like me who is afraid to fly anyway!) we finally made it safely home! I am drinking my own coffee (yum!) out of my new New York City skyline silhouette mug and doing some laundry and, as much as I loved NYC, who doesn't love getting home after a long trip?

But enough of that! I hit 300 followers while I was on vacation and that means a giveaway is in store! AND... right now I'm only 17 followers away from 400, so if I hit 400 before this giveaway ends, I will choose 4 winners... 1 for every 100 followers! How awesome is that?!

So, here's what you do and here's what you win...

1.) Become a follower of my blog if you are not already.
2.) Blog about this giveaway if you have a blog. Go forth and spread the word! Feel free to use the "Flippy Giveaway" button too!
3.) Leave a comment. Whatever you want to say... say it!

On Wednesday (7/27) when we're all feeling the "Middle-of-the-Week-Mehs", I will choose the winner(s?) by random number generator and you will win your choice of a set of flippy books!

You get your choice of:
*holidays set- Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, 100th Day, birthday
*grammar set- nouns, verbs, adjectives, contractions
*science set- water cycle, magnets, plant parts, vertebrates (one for each vertebrate group!), and matter

And, if you missed any of my posts explaining what a "flippy" is, here's the link! And... if you don't win (which I hope you do and I hope I get to choose 4 winners!), you can always purchase them at The Teaching Oasis! I am really in to making these... so maybe in your comment, you can let me know what other flippy books you'd like to see!

Ok- that's it! GO!

Flipping for Flippies!

So, if you missed my post with the birthday flippy or the 100th day flippy, you might be a little confused... but I'm going nuts for FLIPPIES! I feel like I dreamed them up a few nights ago, but I could be wrong. In any case, I just love making them!

I have been making them like crazy have a ton on my Teacher's Notebook store.

It's almost midnight and I just can't stop making them... time for a flippy-vention! I'm wrapping up a set of five on vertebrates... only "fish" left to go but I have to get to b-e-d!

You can find a "time flippy" freebie at my store!

Hope you liked the attack of the exclamation points... I'm trying to use them more sparingly, but I love them too!!!
