For the past five years, I have done "Speller's Choice" for homework in my classroom. The kids get to "choose" how to practice their spelling words within a set of choices I have set up for them.
This has worked out really well. However, next year I will be looping with half of my class and I wanted to do something a little different. So, instead of keeping the same number of choices for the year, each month students will get a new set of choices.
I have attached them below and added a fillable area for you (if you want to use it!) to put in your own e-mail address on a few of the sheets where e-mailing the words is a choice- you'll just have to download (rather than just view) to edit on those pages.
If you download and enjoy, please let me know with a comment! :)
I struggle with spelling homework. This is a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing :)

Fun In First
I'm so glad you all can use this! :) It hadn't actually occurred to me how repetitive my other "Speller's Choice" was and when I sent home my parent survey at the end of the year, one parent commented that her daughter had been getting bored with the choices and that was a light bulb moment for me! I think having a few "always" choice will be great for the kids, but giving some new ones each month will keep them excited about the practice!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! ths will be perfect for my classroom!
ReplyDeleteLast year I saw your Speller's choice ideas and decided to make one similar-I also set myself up with Spelling City thanks to you! :) I like the different ideas for each month, gives them a variety! Thanks so much for sharing these! You are so creative!

Love these! Thank you for all of your hard work and willingness to share. I'm starting my second year of teaching, and have LOVED reading all about your classroom! A question about homework, do you send home a weekly homework sheet that details all of the week's assignments? How do you keep track of who has/hasn't turned all of his/her assignments in? Thanks again! Meg
ReplyDeleteHi Meg! A post about my homework is planned for tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the variety of activities for each month. Smiles :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your wonderful ideas! I had never heard of Spelling City, but I went over and signed right up- can't wait to have my kiddos using it. Spelling is something that needs a little more "fun" and not so much "drudge"!
ReplyDeleteThis is FANTASTIC! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSorry everyone! Someone discovered an error on the December and March pages on "other handed"... Apparently, I didn't right it write. (Did you catch that?) HA!
ReplyDeleteI have re-linked a corrected file! I hope some of you are following this thread by e-mail so you get this message! :)

Hi Christina,
ReplyDeleteI love your Speller's Choice activities. Thanks for sharing! Do you have it in a word document. My computer for some reason will not download google docs.
Jamie401- I am sorry... due to some sad misuse of my items that has happened in the past, I don't send them out in WORD. :( But, you can go to my "Contact Me" page at the top of my blog to find my e-mail. If you e-mail me, I will send you the direct PDF file so no Google Docs involved! :)
ReplyDeleteDo you by any chance have this in a word document?
ReplyDeleteThank you Christina I will do that. Sorry for the second post, I didn't mean to ask you again!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Thank you so much for the fantastic work... and for introducing me to Spelling City. I have now signed up!

ReplyDeleteLove your idea of changing it monthly. Will keep the students engaged. I had them use scrabble tiles and add the sums for each word. Thank you so much!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your spellers choice. I am going to try it.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I do tic tac toe homework and I try to get as creative as I can when I put in the spelling option. These forms will be helpful. I can copy them onto the back of the tic tac toe homework page and they'll have new options every month. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteJust found this on Pinterest...thank you for sharing! LOVE this idea!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea...many of my kiddos have to "practice" at home on their own, so this will give them more ways to make it fun for them! Thanks for sharing :)
