It Looks Like a Classroom- Day 2

My name is Christina.  And I am a Target Dollar Spot pocket chart hoarder.

It's sick, people.  Here are 24 of them.  TWENTY FOUR.  What am I even going to do with these?  Who knows!  But I have to buy them.

So, today I got to my classroom at about 7:00am.  I worked until 10:30, ran some errands until about noon, and then stayed until 4:30pm.  I am now enjoying the AC and the fresh "just showered" feeling while getting ready to show you my pics from day 2.  I'm so excited about the progress I made today!

Ok.

Here's what it looked like when I left yesterday:

And when I left today... for consistency's sake, here's the view from the door:

And here's the view from behind my table.  I'm going desk-less this year!

My student desks still have stuff all over them, but a lot of stuff is put away and ALL of my boxes are unloaded!  Tomorrow I'm going teacher shopping with friends but I'll be back in action on Friday!!!!

  2. You are making great progress! You are a trooper to work so hard in this heat. Plus you are probably there by yourself and can get so much more done without interruptions. My room hasn't even been cleaned yet, so I can't get in there. I bet you are hitting the sales at the Teachers Center in Kazoo! I hope you have fun! I love going to that, because I LOVE the calendars they give away...BUT I don't like the long lines. I may go on Friday. Love the updates!

  3. Lookin' good! My FIRST stop at Target is ALWAYS the dollar spot and I noticed they had purple/green PCs this year! Love your hanging flags! Wish I could do that but (a) ceiling is way too high and (b) we're not allowed :/ you have so many cool storage-y areas!

  6. Christina, I just spend two whole days in my classroom, too. I got a lot done as well, and my classroom looks like it's somewhat ready. Of course, I still have a lot more to do, but I am feeling good about my accomplishment. Now I can go on a vacation and relax before the school year starts!

  10. I'm loving my lightbulb stress squishy balls I picked up today from the Dollar section. I'm blaming it all on my bloggy buddies and Pinterest ideas when my husbands calls me to see where I am at and I happen to be in Target again!

  14. Maybe they could sort their words in pocket charts at their desks? Do you guys do Word Study? We've made pocket chart type things with construction paper before and it's kind of nice. I guess any time you needed to have students sort something, it would be nice.

And that's why the dollar spot is always wiped out! Haha! :)

I love your flags. I hate my fire marshall.

Also, I am jealous that your LCD is mounted on the ceiling. I can't tell you how many times my kids have tripped over the cords in the middle of a lesson and have shut down a Smartboard or whatever...

That's some hard work you're doing! I'm sure it will be beautiful, like it was last year. LOVE your blog. I don't know how you find time to do everything!

  23. I would use those pocket charts with the kiddos! Let them do word sorts and stuff. You almost have a class set! I am so jealous... I want to go desk free because our desks are those HUGE l shaped desks!!! Really, why do I need that much desk space!! I usually junk it up anyway. Your room looks great!!!!!

  24. I have the same addiction! I have a stash of the pocket charts still waiting for inspiration.

  26. 24?! That's hilarious! It is just so hard to say no to those things though. :) Your classroom looks amazing! I can't believe how much you have already gotten done. I'm still hoping the custodians get around to painting my walls. :)

  27. Lookin' good Christina! I really love looking at the schools up north. I love that you all have windows...I've never worked in a building with room windows. You will LOVE going deskless. If you're like me, how many times did you really go to your desk anyway? I was always at my teaching table and my teacher desk just housed stacks. Plus you get a huge area that the kids can have. Oh, I have those striped target boxes that are on your teacher table...I wanted to do a pinterest project with them!! Can't wait to see the end result!

  28. I am going desk-less for the first time this year too! I hope we don't regret our decision and our desks have already been given away hah! If you get a chance, stop by my blog and enter my giveaway. I am giving away 3 $10 gift certificates to tpt for back to school. Good luck!

  29. Looking good! I had lots of those pocket charts in red and blue, and ended up using them for my word wall- I saw them on someone else's blog a couple of years ago. I had 13 of each color and one wall that needed some "stuff". My word wall is going somewhere else this year, so I don't know if I will be using them again due to the way I am putting my word wall up.

  30. I'm going deskless, too. It's just a place to pile stuff and store stuff. I can use that space for the kids. Your room looks really good. I can't wait to see the end result. I love the Target Dollar Spot, but my husband doesn't love that I love it. I bought book marks for welcome bags, individual dry erase boards, and containers for my classroom.

  31. Well I grabbed ONE of those mini pocket charts not knowing what I'll do with it... but 24? I didn't even KNOW they came in purple! hahaha

You made incredible progress on your room!

  32. I went deskless last year and loved it! It forces me to be more organized and I think it makes my room more student centered! Looks like you are doing a great job organizing!
