Ever Had to Chase Down a School Bus? {freebie!}

Well... have you?  You know... a kid hands you a note at 7:45am saying they are not to ride the bus today and during the end of the day activity, you totally forget to remind said child and they get on the bus anyway... and then that sinking feeling sets in as you realize that said child was not supposed to get on the bus... so you run down the hall, fling open the door, and storm onto every bus until you see the student and can finally breathe?!

Well, I hope I'm not the only one who has ever had this happen!  In 9 years of teaching, this has happened only a handful of times, but it's always awful!

In my old school, I had a dry erase board up by my door to write notes on or stick notes from parents as a reminder, but I never put one up last year when I moved schools.

So, I made this, put it in a sheet protector, and taped it up on the window by my door so I can jot myself reminders about anything (i.e. Turn off the LCD projector!  Get your leftovers out of the fridge!  Don't let Jimmy get on the bus!)!

If you use a dry erase marker on a sheet protector, it erases beautifully- in case you didn't know.

And you can have it too by clicking on it below!  Enjoy and leave some comment lovin' with your own horror story or just a friendly 'thanks' if you download it!

And don't forget to check out my new linky party to see what everyone's students are DIGGING!  Click the pic to check it out!

  2. Thanks! This is great! I have done that several times myself. I nee to put one one my desk to remind me of stuff I need to do that I don't want the kids to necessarily see. hehe

  5. That is a great idea! At my school we send the notes to the office each morning. Our secretary fills out a golden color note if they have a different bus routine for the day, and a blue note if they are going to the pick up zone.

Then at the end of the day (last 10 minutes or so) 5th grade helpers pass out all of the notes throughout the school for our secretary. So when I get the notes I am reminded of the note in the morning, and the student is reminded too! We both are accountable :) The student must hold the note in their hands (not stuff it in their backpack) because they have to give the golden bus notes to bus drivers, and the blue pick up zone notes to the pick up zone adult. It is a great system! It only fails when a student forgets to give us the note in the morning, lol... then we are scrabbling to get to the office, get a note, and get on the right bus or to the pick up zone. That is also the beauty of it though. Bus drivers will not take students who aren't usually on their bus unless they have the bus note, and the pick up zone lady sends the student back to the buses if they don't have a pick up zone note (unless they are a regular pick up zone student).

Anyway, that is what works at our school :) It is one of our Safety implementations.

  7. This is a great idea! I have chased down many buses! Some for my own doing and some for the parents calling too late!

  8. I was on the other side of that when my son took the bus home on a day he was supposed to stay with one of my friends who taught at his school. I was subbing across town and wouldn't be home in time. My friend had gotten held up with a parent and my son forgot.
So she raced the bus over to my house and picked him up.
We no longer have home to school transportation in our district but the reminders sheet will be perfect for other needs - after school class changes, who will be picking up, don't forget to hand out the report cards - stuff like that.

  9. This is so cute and such a necessity! I agree with the poster that I will probably have two - one for the kids and one at my desk for everything else! Who doesn't need one of these - with 20+ kiddos in the class you CAN'T remember everything without a prompt! PERFECT! Thanks!

  10. Thanks! This is great! I have a picture frame that I was thinking of using for this exact idea but have not gotten around to making anything for it yet so this is perfect.

I have had to chase a bus (or quite a few!) down, especially if I am on "bus duty". Once I chased one down because of a late student trying to catch it, and the bus driver refused to stop. She wasn't even out of the parking lot yet. I was so frustrated!

  11. This will go great in my new dry erase folder from Target!! Maybe it will help remind the students that forget to turn in their notes to me at the beginning of the day, too.
    Thanks for sharing.

  13. Thanks! I love the note and also the idea of putting it into a sheet protector. If I get a note from a parent about a change in their child's after school destination I usually like to hang on to the note until the end of the day just in case there are any questions about anything! With the sheet protector I could just slip the note down into it also until the day is over! THANKS!

  14. Thanks for sharing. I usually just tape up the notes right to the door, but this will be much cuter!

  15. Love this and the bright colors! It'll be perfect since I'm quite the note person. I have them stuck all over the place but I loved Tami's idea of sticking the notes right in the sheet protector. Thanks for the freebie
