I had a super fun, but late night last night and spent today listening to the Lions
My 2nd graders will be beginning a unit on polygons when we return from break (on the 9th!!!!) and I have been working for the past five hours on polygon math workstation activities for them. I think I have some good stuff and I think it will all logistically work, but what I need is a 2nd (or 3rd even!) pair of eyes to look the packet over.
If you would do that, I would be so happy! Just leave me a comment with your e-mail and I'll send it out. The only thing is that I'm super impatient, so I'd love it if you could look it over and send me some feedback within the next day.
I'll be putting it on my Teacher's Notebook store with my other math workstations after I hear some feedback and make any necessary changes.
HOWEVER... I am putting one of the activities for free right here... but if you download it, please let me know if you think it will work. It makes sense in my head, but I'm not 100% sure that it will actually work like I think it will! Just click the pic below.
So, if you'd review the whole packet, let me know and if you download the game here, I'd love for you to tell me what you think and if you think it will work!
Phew! Off to retire to the couch for the rest of the night!
I'll take a peek.

I forgot to say that I don't go back until Jan. 9th so I'd get back to you quickly with input.
ReplyDeleteThe freebie looks great. I'd take a look at the others.

I'm happy to look it over - no plans for the next couple of days so I have plenty of time! :(

We go back on the 9th and will give it a try with my class and let you know. It does look good.
ReplyDeleteI think the freebie looks great and the kids should have a blast playing it! I'm just thinking for my learning difficulty and special needs kids... perhaps a prompt card of some sort would be useful that gives them ideas for the type of questions they could ask. I think this would be the stumbling block with them - what question do I ask!!?? Even a poster with key words like sides, angles, straight, curved etc would help them. Hope this helps.

I just looked over the freebie and LOVE it! I teach 5th and have a group of students this would be so much fun for! I hope you're getting great feedback on your complete packet. Thanks for the free activity.
ReplyDeleteI think the freebie looks awesome, and I would definitely use it in my classroom. I am always looking for ways to reinforce geometry concepts. I'll take a look at the packet if you are still in need of insight :) Thanks for the freebie!

The freebie looks really fun! It will really get the students using vocabulary and thinking skills. If you still need someone else to look over the rest of the packet I would be happy to! I don't go back to school until Tuesday!

I love the idea! Unfortunately, I don't teach math this year, but I know my partner will be over the moon when she gets on your blog. :) She's a big fan! Anyway, a prompt card MAY come in handy for formulating questions... kind of like reciprocal teaching cards just to give them the framework, especially since they are still learning some of the more technical language. LOOKS GREAT!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your freebie!!!! We have just finished out geometry unit, but I will def use this freebie as a review game. I would love to take a peek at you other stations and get back with you. leighces@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteI am loving the guess who game. I taught shapes right before Christmas so this will be a great review! I would love to see the rest of the activities. I've dedicated tomorrow for "school stuff" so time is not an issue. :) Thanks! kringangel@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI am happy to look it over. We go back tomorrow so I need some ideas for the week! Thanks for the freebie too.

I love the freebie! We're beginning our geometry topic when we return, and I'm looking forward to using this game! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think this is FABULOUS!! This would also be good for some first graders--for a learning center, or even a fun game to review with mom and dad. I know I have a few parents that ask for extra stuff for their higher achieving students. Thanks for sharing!!

First Grade and Fabulous
Looks like you've got plenty of volunteers, but if you need another, send it to jenala87@gmail.com please!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the freebie- my 2nd graders are doing geometry soon, too!
The freebie looks great and makes a lot of sense. I'd like to use it when my 1st/2nd graders get to their geometry units. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to help you out. I miss the days of being editor for high school newspaper! :)

I'm home for a few weeks still, so I can look it over :)
ReplyDeleteand thanks for the freebie! When we get to geometry, I will let you know how it goes!

Hey Christina, if you still need someone, I'd be happy to look it over too. I believe you use the Everyday Math just like we do. So it will be a unit that I'll be needing soon too. Thanks!

I reviewed just what you put on the blog and the directions seems clear to me. With a little modeling, I think this will be very successful in the classroom. The only part I had to reread twice was the sentences that said something like: use your partner's answer to cover up the shapes...Anyways, after I reread it, I got what you were saying. I might re-word that, but overall I think you did a brilliant job!!!
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I noticed in your directions that might make it clearer for students is putting the kind of questions you want them to ask. Do you want them to all be yes and no kind of questions or can they ask how many sides their shape has? If you only want yes and no answers then they need to learn how to ask those kind of questions....easy for some ...hard for others. So the task cards with possible questions might be a good idea for a while, then take the task cards away so they have to think on their own.

I like this! I am going to use it for 4th grade except take out the part about the colors--that'll be too easy for them!! The prompts you have for them and even the little scratch sheet of paper--will help them them keep track of what they've already asked and their clues!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!

Can't wait to try it with my kiddos. I will let you know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI love the freebie! I'm going to try it out, but I agree with some of the other comments. I don't think my second graders have the kind of vocabulary yet to ask questions like "Does it have parallel lines?" Maybe a prompt sheet would be helpful. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIf you don't already have enough eyes, I would be happy to take a look. We are doing shapes after we go back tomorrow :(

I'd love to look it over for you. On your freebie you might want a rule such as "You can't ask the same kind of question two times in a row." This covers the kids who only ask questions about what color it is to narrow it down and forces them to use another type of question. It looks great by the way!
ReplyDeleteI would take a look at it too. Great idea!
