Happy Thanksgiving and a Holiday FREEBIE for You!

Happy Thanksgiving, bloggy friends!

After this weekend, we'll be getting into the holiday swing at school and one of my favorite feel-good things to do with my students is have them share how other students in the class have helped make our classroom a brighter place... hence... Thanks for LIGHTING Up Our Class!

I would like to share with you the banner you see above and a light pattern so your students can create a bulletin board so celebrate the ways their classmates make your room a happy place to be.

All you have to do is click the image above to download the banner and click the image below to download the light pattern.

So, what I do is copy the light pattern on several colors of paper and then write each students' name and my own at the top of the lights. Then each student (and me too!) gets a light with a classmate's name and they write and/or draw to complete the sentence saying one way their friend has LIT up our classroom! They cut them out and we share what we've written. Then I hang them in the hallway and use green yarn to make the string of lights to all of them.

We love brightening each others' day with the compliments and the kiddos love to hear what their friends say to each other too!

BUT... if you download the files, I would love for you to share the love by leaving a comment about how a bloggy teacher has helped LIGHT up your classroom and then leave that person a comment on their blog to let them know you gave them a shout out! I hope we can LIGHT up the comments of this post to celebrate all the talented, awesome, and generous teachers out there!

And I'll go first in the comments below...

I hope you'll join me in celebrating the kindness of our colleagues!

  1. You LIGHT up my classroom and my life, Ms. Winston! I am so thankful we had the opportunity to "meet" and collaborate together online! Thanks for sharing your great ideas and being so generous!

  2. I must say: I get so excited when you post! I always think, "Oooh, I'm going to get to pin something cool. I just know it!" Thanks for all of your fantastic posts. YOU light up my someday classroom, my Thursday nights, and my life! <3

  3. You, and SO many other bloggers light up my life daily! I hate to admit it, but I am a big stalker of your blog!!!
I often wonder HOW you have the time to create and share so much...
Thanks for making my Thanksgiving wonderful...
(What part of Michigan are u in? I may have asked you b4, but have the memory of a fish fly...I am near Detroit)

  4. Thanks for the great idea. I am going to use it.

  5. This is a great idea!! Would you be willing to make another one that says 'school' instead of class? This would be such a fun morale booster to see up around the whole school!! I love things like this, where one person sticks a light on someone else's door with a nice note and then that person can pass one on to someone else- and then it spreads around the whole school!

  6. What a wonderful idea. I can't wait to do this. Thank you for sharing!

  7. You are such an inspiration with your creativity and generosity. Thanks for being a blessing and example to your students.

  8. You have so many great ideas! You have changed the way I teach as well as my attitude about teaching! Thank you so much!

  9. Thanks for the cool freebie! Such an awesome idea!

  10. THank you so much for all of the wonderful ideas you share!!! Everyone who blogs and shares their wonderful ideas!!! My kiddos love all of the neat ideas I get!!

Thanks

  12. I did this today as our first Christmas "craft" this year and my kids LOVED it!! I picked a child and did one as an example. I can't wait to hang it in the hall!!

  13. Hi Christina,

We thought this was a cool holiday writing activity and featured it at our blog, Kindergarten Lesson Plans!

You can find the full article here:

We were sure to give photo/idea credit, as well as a link back to your blog, but we'd love for you to take a look at. If there are any problems, we'll be certain to take the feature down immediately!

    Thanks so much,

    Kayla Johnson
